GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE MECCA OF ALL DISTANCE SWIMS -
THE ENGLISH CHANNEL

  1. Preparation, preparation and preparation.

  2. Allow sufficient time to become acclimatised to local waters.  The Channel is like no other distance swims!

  3. Channel conditions are dictated by the weather and can change at any moment.

  4. Swim dates are only ever approximate and subject to change, due to conditions in the Channel.

  5. Remember the sacrifices you have made to get to this point in time!  Be patient and wait for the right conditions - Failure is not an option!

  6. Seek feeding advice and practice your feeding technique over and over again.  Do not waste time during the swim as this will effect the outcome of the swim in French waters, with the tides.

  7. The support boat and captain are there to help; seek their advice and learn from their experience gained from escorting previous swimmers.

  8. Bring with you the people you need to assist with the swim.  Too many people can prove a distraction to the challenge in front of you.

  9. When seeking a place to stay, always seek accommodation which is sympathetic to Channel Swimmers.

  10. Finally, self-catering accommodation is the best option, as you can come and go as you like and look after your own particular dietary requirements in the build-up to the swim of a lifetime.
